About Ace Hardware

Ace stores - nationwide, 4,400 of them - come in all sizes and shapes. We have small, urban stores, large rural stores and everything in between. Ace will celebrate its 85th anniversary in 2009. The company was created by a small group of Chicago hardware store owners who joined together to purchase merchandise in bulk to save money and buy at the lowest possible price. This enabled even the smaller stores to compete effectively at retail despite larger stores in their market.
Each Ace store is independently owned and operated by local entrepreneurs, hard-working, passionate business owners who are involved with and, many times, reside in the communities where their stores are. There's a good chance you'll see your local Ace store owner at the grocery store or Little League game.
